At the Wildflower School, our mission is to inspire CURIOSITY, INDEPENDENCE, and COMPASSION in our young learners. We blend both Reggio Emilia and Waldorf philosophies to cultivate engagement and enthusiasm for nature, play, and learning.
We give students the respect and opportunity to communicate, ask questions, and participate in their own investigation and learning. We know that real and meaningful learning doesn’t happen TO students, but happens through engagement and agency.
We support learning as it occurs naturally. We follow the Reggio Emilia philosophy of student-led, project-based learning, and encourage little ones to explore their every unique interest and implement structured curriculum in harmony with natural curiosity. We believe in the value of PROCESS over PRODUCT.
We believe in play, experimentation, and discovery in fostering a true love of learning. We dress up, we make believe, we tell stories, and we encourage having no imaginative limits. We learn in, with, for, and about nature.
We care for class pets as a community, and our littles ones are responsible for that care too. We highly prioritize environmental awareness, and learn to recycle, compost, reduce waste, and use environmentally friendly materials and practices. We foster kindness and compassion for animals, plants and people.
We know that healthy kids are kids that find joy in movement, sustenance, and self-care. We foster wellness through providing healthy food choices, encouraging many kinds of movement (including yoga, dance, outdoor exercise, etc.), and taking time to rest and care for personal needs.
We explore and develop life-skills as an integral part of our curriculum. We learn important social skills like making eye contact and communicating our needs. We also learn practical life-skills like basic organization, food preparation, cleaning up and putting away, being responsible for our belongings, and many more practices that help our little ones learn to be well rounded and independent.
We maintain healthy and consistent routines to cultivate independence and security, while following the natural flows and rhythms of young life.
We believe in the importance of active community building and involvement; we welcome family members and community members to be active participants in our school, and we love to explore our local community.
We love, nurture and respect children and families of all shapes and sizes. We include families of any race, creed, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, weight, and physical or mental ability.
